Why Websites Fail To Produce Results

There are many reasons why a website fails to produce a good result for its owner. It could be poor marketing, poor design, improper coding, or even graphics that distract and drive visitors away. The key thing needed when analyzing your own site is to first honestly consider how potential customers view your site.

Lets imagine you where driving through a new town and stopped at the corner store. Walking in the door you find merchandise scattered about, isles mislabeled, lights non functional, the advertising flyers dirty and unreadable, and the clerk off on break. Would you still spend your money here or turn around and walk out the door? Sadly the vast majority of sites we work on have some, if not all, of these fatal characteristics and its our job to help owners turn those sites into spaces to be proud of and profit from.

What you see is what you get, graphics must professionally convey an act, scene, or idea.
The very first thing a website needs to do is inspire confidence in the company behind it. That is accomplished by the graphics design. If your site is graphically inspiring the customer will move forward to read your offerings. If, on the other hand, your website contains outdated blurry graphics, fuzzy pictures, or just old outdated elements, you will loose most visitors within seconds.

The overall look and feel of your website is critical to offering an organized view of what you want visitors to experience.
It portrays what you represent. The design of a site will help characterize your product, service, or idea. A website design fails to keep an audience when any of the following happen. Chosen colors are annoying. Fonts are to large or to small. Too much or too little informative material. And finally, if it looks as though the site hasn't been updated in decades.

An important set of questions to ask yourself are these..
If you where an average person with money to spend and you visited your own website would you be impressed? Would be interested? Would you be so impressed and so interested that you would consider purchasing the product or service listed?

Now find a friend who you can trust to give an honest insightful answer and ask them these questions..
If you didn't know me and you visited my website would you be impressed? Would you be interested? Would you be so impressed and interested that you would consider purchasing the product or service I offer?

If the answer from you, or your friend, is anything but a confident yes its time for a change because your site isn't all that it could and should be. It doesn't matter how little you spend on hosting. It doesn't matter if you where given 5 million free web templates to choose from. It doesn't matter if you built the site yourself or had it built. The only thing that matters is that your website isn't helping you the way it should, and more importantly, its not providing the solid foundation needed to generate sales.

Here are some interesting facts to consider...

  • After the first year the average website owner spends less than 1 minute per week working on an uproductive site.
  • The average first time website owner spends countless hours trying to build a website and is generally unsatisfied with the results.
  • The vast majority of FREE websites from hosting templates are improperly coded to take advantage of search engines.
  • The vast majority of PHP image galleries are unseen by the large search engines, including google, yahoo, and bing.
  • You only get one shot to impress a visitor. 99.9% will never return to a poorly constructed website.
  • And finally the most important, the average time a visitors stays on a poorly designed website is less than 15 seconds.
